January 11th, 2009The Literacy Glove is a colorful, child sized, stretchy glove with a fabric picture on the tip of each of the five fingers. It is a fun, “hands on”, educational tool to help your child with his/her READING comprehension!
For what is the Literacy Glove used?
The Literacy Glove helps children identify the 5 key elements found in ALL fictional stories:
- Main Characters
- Setting
- Problem or start of the adventure
- Main Events leading to the end
- Solution and/or ending
How does The Literacy Glove work?
Teachers and parents use The Literacy Glove to teach the 5 elements found in fictional stories. They wear the glove on one hand while holding and reading a fiction book with the other. Teachers and parents stop throughout the story, refer to The Literacy Glove, and discuss the different parts of the story.
Another way to use The Literacy Glove is to read the entire story and use it to summarize the story afterward. The colorful pictures are clues to help even the youngest readers identify the characters, setting, problem, main events, and solution.
Why is The Literacy Glove better?
Put down the pencils and boring worksheets and pick up a Literacy Glove! Soon your child will memorize the 5 key elements of fictional stories by simply looking at his/her hand, even without the Literacy Glove!
The Literacy Glove allows children to “retell” stories in an engaging, unintimidating, organized way, which builds comprehension. When children understand their reading they enjoy reading and want to read more!
